Will translating my site cost a lot?
The short answer is "no". In general, the
translation of your site shell (button, menus, forms,
etc.) will cost C$350 for the first page, if concreteorange
designed the English version of your site. If we have
to take an existing design and recreate all the graphics,
the cost will be slightly more. Subsequent pages will
cost anywhere from C$50 to C$100 per page. Note: that
this does not include the actual content of
your site. Depending on the difficulty of the text,
the cost can be anywhere from C$0.07 to C$0.45 per
word.
Why can't I use a translation tool like the one
offered by Google?
You can use it, but expect the result to be close
to gibberish at times. Machine translation has gotten
much better over the years, but is still far from
perfect. Translations produced by this means would
weaken your site, rather than enhance it.
The following is an example of a Google translation
from German to English (extracted from an article
about Prince Harry found in "Der Spiegel"):
At four o'clock is a prince with a friend in the
morning kichernd from one sends Londoner night club
come. Before the door a policeman, who serves Harry
as bodyguard and Chauffeur, already waited to tax
of a sedan. Allegedly the rather berauschten friends
forgot to close the car door why their vehicle scratched
the departure a parked car right after.
A translation from English into German would not
fare any better.
Do you localize only web sites?
No. Although concreteorange
is no longer in the business of translating content
only, we have in the past participated in various
software localization projects. Hence we will readily
dive into your code, forms, DB, or GUI to extract
the source text and to insert the translated version.
Note: if specific software is need for any such given
project, we expect the client to provide the necessary
application.
What about larger projects?
If a task is deemed too large to complete in-house
in a reasonable time frame, a network of translators
will be engaged to complete the task. concreteorange
will manage the project, coordinate the
localization, and deliver the final product.
Can you localize Flash site?
Yes. Text length can sometimes pose a problem, since
German is less concise than English. Still, in most
cases a compromise can be reached.
